Eldat's ESL System

Eldat's ESL system is built for stores which have a computerized Point Of Sale (POS) system. The object of the system is to transmit prices and other item-oriented data from the POS system to the shelves quickly, reliably and without the need for human intervention.

Eldat's system is connected to the computer that runs the POS system. Eldat's system computer gets the updated prices from the POS system and transmits it through transceivers, located in the store's ceiling, to the ESLs, which are located on the shelves in the store. The transceivers then receive back from the ESLs a confirmation signal which acknowledges the correct reception of the data.

Complete Solution

Eldat provides a complete price display solution with the widest range of electronic price labels:

Standard label that would be the natural choice for most of the items in a store.

French label with retail in Francs and Euro and price per Kg.

Small labels designed for tightly racked items
(spices, health & beauty, etc.) where shelf-edge space is minimal.

Small label - 65mm x 33mm / 2 ½ In x 1 1/3 In

Large labels for fruits and vegetables displays.

Big produce label - 150mm x 80mm / 6 In. x 3 1/8 In.

Dedicated labels for price clubs and Cash & Carry stores.

Special labels for the extreme temperature range and moisture requirements of freezer and refrigerator compartments.

Eldat's labels were specially designed to be easily customized. Both the label's LCD layout and the paper sticker can be custom-tailored to suit the specific retailer's needs.

More than price display

The labels do a lot more than just display a static price. They can attract customer attention to special offers or sales by flashing LCD and even by illuminating a red LED on the electronic shelf label itself. Another powerful feature is that Eldat's electronic shelf labels have several pages of memory allowing up to seven different screens of data to be displayed. For example, the screen data can be changed so that the standard displayed data is replaced by customer-specific information or stock clerk data. These changes - kind of like changing channels on your television to see a different program - can be triggered by the control PC or by a small remote control unit.

Eldat's IR communication is a full two-way communication channel, i.e., it enables the transfer of data both ways (from the server to the store floor and from the floor back to the server). Other systems allows for transfer of data from the server to the floor only (receiving only an acknowledge signal from the labels).

A small remote controller enables access to data
on the alternate screens of the labels
(i.e. stock, number of facings).

The immediate benefit is Eldat's ability to integrate a wide variety of communicating applications under the ESL's IR network, without the need for any additional communication infrastructure. An example for such application is Eldat's unique wireless Price Verifier.

Eldat's Price Verifier is a compact unit that allows shoppers to scan items in the aisles and get an immediate price confirmation. Of course, other such units exist, but Eldat's Price Verifier carries the great advantage of installation simplicity: there is no wiring required to the PoS system. The Price Verifier communicates with the server via the infra-red system, eliminating the need for hard-wired cabling or for expensive RF infrastructure.
