January 1, 2002

Jeronimo Martins of Portugal is using the Euro as the main currency as of today. Last night, in an operation that lasted less then five hours, all the prices in the stores that utilize Eldat's ESL were switched from Escudo to Euro as the main price. More then one Million labels, installed at 130 stores were updated remotely from Jeronimo Martins (JMR) head office in Lisbon.

" We are impressed with these performances" says Mr. Jose Silva Ferreira, JMR's Director of Information. "In stores that do not have ESL yet this conversion is a tough task that involves a lot of preparations and manpower. We are very satisfied with the speed of the currency conversion and level of price accuracy in our stores. We are going to continue displaying our local currency as a reference for a few month to enable our customers to get used to the Euro and eventually we will display only the Euro price fields".

"The operation in Portugal is unique in its scale and is currently being implemented in other countries as well" says Mr. Yossi Smoler, Eldat's president and CEO. "These days, the prices in over two million other labels we have in the Euro zone are changing automatically into the Euro. This saves our customers hundreds of thousands of Euros and facilitate the logistics in the operation of the stores".
